Actually if you start a trade the employer sends you to school part time during your apprenticeship..... and you get paid during that time. Takes around 3 years. ofcause some professions are more appealing than others. University the government gives you money to live on if your parents make less money. ..... it's not much bit certainly better than paying for school like in the us. Problem in the east is that jobs don't pay as much as 8n the west. .... this is all jobs that Germans don't pick .... but still require certifications.

@MaxiMonkU2B my niece lives in Munich and has a very well paid job . She chooses not to have a car If she for some reason does need one she uses a service where ( as I understand) they let you know where the next one is and when your done you just park it and log out . Her dad used to be on the board of directors of on of the mayor German corporations and used the S Bahn to get to work even so he could have a driver take him. Public transportation and bicycles are faster than cars in German city's. Fyi I'm in the us and can't get a coffee without driving.

@Kaede-Sasaki that 3rd generation comment would earn you a - "super extreme right wing" label By the way, child care is also paid by the government. They used to have a system that worked rather well in the 80s but then the extra expansion to the east and the flood of asylum seekers put a lot of pressure on the social net.
