@_levi07 : German word is Pfalzgraf, there had been in early years of HRE many ( for example the Pfalzgrafen of Tübingen), but as longer as Middle Ages lasted, nearly all dynasties ended, and their territories came under rule of other Houses. Now, what was a Pfalz? From start of HRE until the end, there was no official capital! So medieval german emperors and kings travelled through the Empire, with a large Gefolge ( don't know english word), snd at places, where the Emperor and his Gefolge did a longer stop, local nobles, officials, clerics, judges etc. came to speak with the Emperor ( and officials travelling with him) and all kind of things had been done , nowadays being done in capital. Those Pfalzen had been mostly only lightly fortified groups of houses on crown land. In those houses , surrouded by the fortifications, food, firewood, eqipment etc. produced on crownland was stored. The Emperor and his Gefolge travelled from one Pfalz to the next, there they could resupply and doing some necessary repairs and spend a few days of recovery (?) / Erholung. In socalled Interregnum, ehen between 1254 and 1274 HRE had no real Emperor, most nobles and knights ( up to 1496 no part of german nobility) grabbed the part of crownland they had to administrate , as their own territory, but this is annother long (!) story.

@sebe2255 : Hohenzollern Castle is owned to 2/3 by prussian (protestsntic) Branch, to 1/3 by swabian ( catholic) branch. Current head of swabian branch owns some factories, and as far as i know has not really economic problems, you hear few about him in public, and when, mostly positive things, Like his distant relative Friedrich der Große, he is known as a good musican. His prussian counterpart Georg tried to get something of former family owned extensive things back. It is not forbidden, to do so, and many persons try to get money etc. from Federal Republic or States. So what?
I personaly , Brittas boyfriend, autistic, rural backgrond, conservative have met some noblemen during historical guided tours of a small historical society. Mostly of former knights class, but also a rather close relative to british Royal House. Most of them are serious people, either classical owners of farmland, forrests, wineyards, etc., other ones are lawyers, construction ingenieurs, brewery owners, only one seemef to be still really rich. Tradtonal dress, in british or german vountystyle. Tradtonal behavior? One day, during a historical tour to an undestroyed medieval looking castle, the owner waited in Hunters dress in front of his castle, in his early 70s. One old man in his 80s , was in the group of travellors. When the castle owner saw this old man, hr lifted His hat , did a slight bow and said: Your Royal highness hasn' t visit me for a long time! The old man with hat , coat and umbrella, was realy a member of former royal House of Württemberg. Most of current younger noblemen are married with women of nonnoble families. Last year i did a series of photos with two ladies in the besutfull park of a count. One of the ladies personally knee the counts wife, so i got the key to park and Garden house for free. After the photo Session i gave the keys back to the ( USA born!) countess, i thanked her for using the Park for free, and Just for fun i said: Ich möchte mich bei Ihrer erlauchten Gräfin bedanken! The Lady looked rather surprised for using old Style words.
Monarchy? For me no problem, why? We have a Democracy, but like a Monarchy i can not elect head of state.
