@axolotl-guy9801 : In Germany there are still descendants of those frankish tribesmen, which not moved to France/ Frankreich. These are the inhabitants of Hesse, Rhineland- Palatinate, Saarland, the southern part of Northrine- Westphalia and the northern parts of Bavaria and Baden- Württemberg. They speak fränkischen Dialekt. So the german version of Frankish ( the Fränkisch of today) can' t be wrong. And we germans speak names ending with ,rich' , for example Erich, Roderich, with a german ,ch' sound and not as ,k'. The two families ,Merowinger' and ,Karolinger' should not been seen as french or german. They belong to both nations, but not to a single one.

axolotlguy: a) Before 1873 no Standard German existed, only german dialects, forming three dialect groups. My ( i am Brittas boyfriend) dialect is swabian dialect , which belongs to Hochdeutsch or Oberdeutsch dialect group ( bavarian dialects in Bavaria, Austria and Southern Tyrol in ltaly, swabian - alemannic dialects in parts of german states Baden - Württemberg and Bayern, austrian state Vorarlberg, german part of Switzerland, french Alsace and Liechtenstein. When i travel with my car an hour northwards, i am on fränkisch tribal territory, they speak a different dialect. Fränkisch is spoken in parts of Bayern, Baden - Württemberg, Nordrhein - Westfalen, mainly in Hessen, Saarland, Rheinland - Pfalz and the few remaining Lorraine german speakers ( if there are still ones). B) Frankish empire before split in 843 included current France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, northern Italy and Most of current Germany. In this territories had been spoken forerunners of current french/italian/ german/ dutch ( flemish) languages, and latin as clerical/ administrative language. German Name for current France is for centuries Frankreich ( realm of the Franks).

@marshalljohnson7690 : The Duke of Lorraine/ Herzog von Lothringen would be currently the head of the Habsburg family. When in 1740 emperor Karl Vl died without a son, his son in law, the Duke of Lorraine became the next emperor, but the French king wanted to have his duchy Lorraine for recognizing him as the next emperor, with this unfine behaviour the french got Lorraine ( there had also been some innergerman trouble because of the election). So the current name of the Habsburg family is Habsburg- Lothringen, without a ,von' , because in 1919 all austrian noblemen lost the ,von' in their names. ( In Germany they still have the ,von' in their names, but not all germans with a ,von' are former noblemen).
