@theultimatefreak666 : After 1806, or better 1815, the Heads of Houses who lost their countries between 1803 and 1806 had been known as , Standesherren ' with some remaining honory rights. Some time ago , i read, a quarter of those Standesherren died out. Also mostly in swabian, frankish and rhineish region, there had been the Reichsritter ( Imperial Knights), who had been Independent Knights, who could reign their Village like a Monarch. Also from this Reichsritter, many families no more exist.

@kleinweichkleinweich : In 1815, when German Federation was formed, there had been two ( catholic) swabian Principalities of Hohenzollern dynasty. The principality of Hohenzollern - Sigmaringen ( which was the larger one), and Hohenzollern - Hechingen ( where Hohenzollern castle really is). In 1849 both Lines gave their territories to their mighty prussian relatives, who saved their Thrones in 1848. Today only branch Hohenzollern - Sigmaringen is allive. Two sidenotes: It is strange , that Habsburg, Hohenzollern and Hohenstaufen dynasty had their root in former Duchy Swabia. Next to Hohenstaufen, i live in this Region, there is the small castle Wäscherschloß, inhabitated up to 1857. As far as i know , Wäscherschloß and Wäscherhof had been in HRE time no part of Württemberg, but owned by Habsburg dynasty from 15th century to 1857, when they sold it to nonnoble owners, last Person living in Castle, seemed to be a Förster.
