@dogmosatchmo : When in 1815 the German Federation / Deutscher Bund was founded, three foreign kings had been Bundesfürsten/ Federation princes: The british king as king of Hannover, the dutch king as Great Duke of Luxemburg, and the danish king as Duke of Holstein and Lauenburg. In 1839 Victoria became Queen of Great Britain, but by law a woman was not allowed as ruler in Hannover , so the head of a sidebranch Hannover- Cumberland became king of Hannover as Georg l, in 1866 his son Georg ll lost his country. If Hannover would have been ruled by Victoria, Bismarck would have had a problem. The german Jägerbüchse/ huntsmans rifle is basicly the ancestor of Pennsylvania rifle, it was taken to America by ,german' immigrants and adapted to America, smaller Bord, but longer barrel to safe lead and gunpowder. The german Landkreis Esslingen ( county? Arrondissement?) i live , was once divided: Most of the territory was once Duchy Württemberg, the smaller part was Reichsstadt ( imperial town) Esslingen and three villages had been owned by Reichsritter ( imperial knights).

@dogmosatchmo : I am not Britta herself, but her boyfriend, i am no academic, only trained worker . At a Kindergarten daytrip, visiting the Bärenhöhle/ bear cave ( Höhle and hole seem to have the same root) and nearby Lichtenstein castle in 1970 was the start for my history hobby, I have read many books and magazines, i visited lots of military and civilian museums, palaces and historic towns and sites. My homeregion is full of this, celtic ,roman and and allemanic relicts, medieval castles and monastries , Renaissance fortresses ( and castle, monastries and fortress ruins). Also i took part at the historical daytrips of a small historical society. The tour guides had been book authors, former museum directors , etc. and in one case a real Princess. With this society i could visit buildings, usually closed to ordinary tourists. So after five decades, i have got some knowledge.
