Regis : In the 19th century after the napoleonic era, more and more german people, especially educated ones, wanted that the small german states unite. But there had been two positions. One wing meant, Austria should also be in the new Germany because the german language is spoken, this wing was called ,die Großdeutschen' ( the Great germans). The other wing thougt, Austria should not be a part of the new Germany, because there had been lots of non germans in Austria. This wing was called ,die Kleindeutschen' ( the Small germans). So i think, when in 1938 Austria became a part of Germany again, Hitler simply used a 19th century word.
