What happened after M71 introduction? Bavaria had Gendarmerie, Border Guards ( Customs Service), Prison Guards and Forresty officials for the rifles. Before 1879 ( introduction of M79 Revolver), there had been in service of german armies ( Yes, armies: First Army- Royal prussian army, incuding troops of grandduchies, duchies, principalities and free cities, second army- royal bavarian army, three corps, third army : royal saxon army, two corps, fourth army: royal Württembergian army , one corps) as Pistols: Bavaria noted Werder pistol, Kingdom Saxony: A Revolver in 10,4 mm looking like an oversized Smith & Wesson Nr 1, navy : Colt and british percussion revolvers, other troops : Smoothbore prussian M52 percussion pistol. So Bavaria had before M79 revolver noticed, we nned more pistols, so some Werder carbines had been converted to pistols. When after wwl Bavaria became a Republik, some of Werder pistols had been still used by bavarian rural policemen. ( Perhaps more modern pistols had been given to army, also in other states some modern police pistols had been given to army, which gave dated M79 and M83 revolvers to police.)
