The vault Tech: Luxemburg was from middle age to 1866 a part of Germany. In 14th century the original Luxemburg dynasty had been also for some time Kings of Bohemia and Emperors of HRE, this means they had been, long ago, important. Later the capital ( also named Luxemburg) was a strong fortress , which was important. After 1815 , until 1832, the Dutch King was also Great Duke of Luxemburg. And the town was a German Federation Fortress of second class, during the time of the German Federation the Luxemburgian contingent of the German Federation Army served as fortress troops for Luxemburg fortress ( together with 2000 prussian soldiers). After the Innergerman war of 1866 Luxemburg ( together with Austria and Liechtenstein) leafed Germany, and became independent and neutral. They destroyed ( schleiften) the fortress, that Luxemburg was no more interessting for France under Napoleon lll, and Prussia gave up the right, to have 2000 soldiers in Luxemburg. I hope, this not so necessary knowledge helps.
