  1. Black soldiers of african colonies Schutztruppe, and Kaiserliche Landespolizei used M71s in colony Deutsch Ostafrika ( current Tansania) as long as they had ammunition. As longer as wwl lasted , german troops under Lettow- Vorbeck had to use captured british/ belgian/ portugiese weaponry. Schutztruppe of Deutsch Ostafrika surrendered three weeks after German Army in Europe. Firearms of Südsee Polizeibataillon ( only armed german forces in german south sea territories outside Samoas Fita Fita unit) i don' t know, but google their impressive uniforms:-))) Chinesische Polizeikompagnie in Tsingtao was only armed with cavallry swords, when mounted, and baton, when on foot. In Europe In wwl M71 or M71 / 84 was used by elderly reservists ( Landsturm) , Naval Personal and Police, only rearline. Very last existing rifles and cartidges had been given to Volkssturm ( as far as i know).

  2. Even we germans are unsure, from which date onwards, medieval German Empire ( Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nation) could be called deutsch. 843?/911?/ 919?. Explaining the events of this years in english is not easy.

  3. Is a prussian Helm mit Spitze ( helmet with point), but seems to be later model of 1890s. To spot the state, look for coat of arms ( in this case prussian eagle) and the state cocarde of chin strap. National cocarde is black/white/ red, prussian state cocarde black/ white. Clearly visible.

  4. ​@bramster-b9v: Only french cavallry, especially cuirassiers, had helmets, other soldiers a cap, which was often copied in US civil war. And in 1870/ 71 many nonprussian soldiers had other helmets, württembergian troops a cap, similar to Swiss caps.

  5. @bramster-b9v : Pickelhaube ( pickaxehood) was never official german term, as far as i know Helm mit Spitze ( helmet with point). But Lederhelm mit Spitze is plausible, because also cavallry helmets made of steel or tombac existed.
