@skepticalbadger : Watch You tube, there are old french newsreels from 1900s to 1967(!), but with ,epee de combat'. And in my country, Germany, academic fencing with partly sharpened blades is still practiced on low level.

@StarsWithScars : No, only the Mensur bouts of academic fencing have some relicts of duels, but a duel after an insult etc. are no more allowed. The last known duel in Germany was in 1937, a Journalist of a Nazi magazine had an affair with the wife of an high rank Nazi's Adjutant ( don ' t know english word).

@ScorieDivine : In Germany, in other countries it was perhaps different, a ,honourfull' cut wound to end a duel had to be longer than one Zoll/ 1", a ,honourfull ' thrust wound had to be so large that you could see the triangle of the triangleshaped ,epee de combat'/ Pariser blade. So in a ,first blood' duel the duelists could honourfull stop the duel after a not too dangerous wound. But your comment is true, the danger of knife blades is widely underestimated.
