In military german a Gewehr was usually a fullsized battlerifle. A Karabiner ( in Austria also Stutzen was used ) was a shorter rifle , mostly for cavallry. After wwl ( Allied nations made trouble) the rather long fullsized battlerifles and carbines been standardized to one model 98k. Was shorter than wwl Gewehr and longer than wwl Karabiner, but called Karabiner. That those shown rifle was called Gewehr is indeed unusual, i only can assume that someone ordered this name ( in reallity the important Nazis often had not been realy correct in traditions) or because this rifle was the battlerifle of the Gebirgsjäger. Today in german Military nearly everything traditional is forbidden, or german terminology is replaced by english words.
In civilian context Gewehr is umbrella term for all kind of long gun, when a correct description is not necessary. But attention! In old texts, before about 1800, Gewehr is also used as umbrella term for all hand weapons, even swords or spears. Reason: Gewehr consists of Ge- ( meaning a lot of/ for example Gesang - a lot of singing, or Geschrei - a lot of shouting) and Wehr ( meaning weapon or defence/ sich wehren - to defend yourself).
Btw., bayonnet is in german language either Bajonett or Seitengewehr.

@bukelos2804 : I am Brittas boyfriend, only using her Computer too. I am rural/ conservative metal worker, so basicly patriotic. But i am, unusual for a factory worker, not uneducated, i have socalled , Mittlere Reife ' ( middle education). After elementary school ( four years), i was for six years on Gymnasium, highest german school type, preparing for university, but was not intelligent enough to get , Abitur ' so i finished after ten years of school with Mittlere Reife and started a german style jobtraining ( Lehre) as metal worker ( machine fitter). So to use the words of Germanys greatest artist Goethe from his theater play Faust: Two hearts are in my chest! On one side i am the disciplined conservative patriotic german, who respects law and order and follows the leader, on other hand i have education, know the difference of patriotism and nationalism, truth and lie ( Propaganda), peace and war ( hate between nations). An unhappy struggle between national duty and duty of humanity. I hope, you understand my soul. Truth , peace and culture are in my oppinion the best options for future, but the ghostly shadows of history / past must be put into a strong Cage.

Was from early 10th century to 1806 regular part of HRE. In 955 Lechfeld battle, first campaign where a realy german army appeared on battlefield, bohemian levie was rearguard of german army.. And from about 1400 to 1918 part of Austria/Habsburg territories. So starting in middleage, when a native dynasty ruled, to wwll a large german minority lived there, and some bohemian towns ( Städte) had a germanstyle lawset. When in 1918 Czechoslovakia was founded, there had been in reallity a bit more germans than slovacs, and german people had been, at least in first years threated bad, was one of the reasons, why a man named Henlein (?) a supporter of Hitler was successfull among german inhabitants of Czechoslovakia. When in 1919, treatises of Versailles and St. Germain, the Allied nations would have used their brains better, wwll surely would not have happened.

@causewaykayak : Glasbläserei was once in german regions full of Woods rather common. On german side of german/czech border ( Bayrischer Wald) glass and porcellain production is still wellknown.
A note to german job training/ craftman system ( perhaps also Austria/ Switzerland), dating back to middleage. Formerly with 12 to 14 Years, nowadays ( change of school system) with 16 to 18 years, boys ( of course nowadays also girls) start the jobraining called Lehre. After usually 3 to 3,5 years this Training time is over, and after a successfull test ( practical and theoreitic) in industry you.are Facharbeiter, in traditional craftmanship ( Handwerk) you are Geselle ( like middleage). Those craftsmen, who learned their job in traditional Handwerk, often, but not allways, follow an old tradition called Wanderschaft: For three years they travel through the world and join for few weeks the craftsmens shops of a Meister / master craftman. When you are a Geselle/ Facharbeiter after three years you can do an expensive test, producing a Meisterstück/ masterpiece. In traditional Handwerk you become Handwerksmeister and like in last 1000 years you can open an own workshop, hire Gesellen, train Lehrlinge. In Industy you become Industriemeister, here you are only the leader of a team of workers, or, leader of a production room.
