In 1866 Österreich, Luxemburg and Liechtenstein left ,Germany', Hannover, Hessen- Kassel and Frankfurt ( Main)also Schleswig, Holstein, and Lauenburg had been annexed by Prussia. So the remaining states which took part in the war of 1870/71 had been: The Kingdoms of Preußen, Bayern, Sachsen and Württemberg. The Grand Duchies of Baden, Hessen- Darmstadt, Oldenburg, Mecklenburg- Schwerin, Mecklenburg- Strelitz and Sachsen- Weimar - Eisenach. The Duchies of Anhalt, Braunschweig, Sachsen- Coburg- Gotha, Sachsen- Altenburg and Sachsen- Meiningen. The Principalities of Waldeck- Pyrmont, Lippe- Detmold, Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt, Schwarzburg- Sondershausen, Reuß- Greitz (?) and Reuß- Schleitz (?). The Free and Hanseatc towns of Hamburg, Bremen and Lübeck.
