@jkkennedy9280 : I am german, in the 90s the , Deutsches Waffen Journal', i think i must not translate, wrote a long article about the ,Osteraufstand/ easter uprising ' from 1916. When i remember correctly, from the english conquest of Ireland , which was complete after Cromwells cruel campaign, onwards the catholic part oft the irish population was not allowed to own arms. This situation had not changed in 1913. Note: Colonial tribes loyal to british rule could own percussion muskets, not so loyal tribes flintlock muskets and their traditional weaponry. So the most common weapons of irishmen , which not liked british rule , had been Hurling bats and Shilleilagh walking canes. Also irish sailors bought in harbours outside of Great Britain cheap revolers, mostly belgian or spanish ( basque region) made. In those days most european countries had liberal weapons laws. The money , the irish sailors used to buy revolvers, had been their own saved money for money collected by the ,Irish National Brotherhood'. By the time, this Organisation had a number of stolen or smuggled, mostly civilian firearms. Also irisch soldiers of the irish regiments in wwl smuggled captured german pistols to Ireland. Now to those german M71 blackpowder singleshot breechloaders. Irish persons , members of

@jkkennedy9280 : Sorry , wrong button! Irish persons, when i remember right from this noted organisation, came to a german military surplus trader, Benny Spirro, and ordered a large number of M71 rifles, because the other rifles he offered had been to unmodern. Later in the Hitler era this trader got problems, he did not survive. The sending to Ireland was made by two ships. The British authorities noticed this, so they could overwhelm(?) one of those ships, and also the second ship could not give all weapons to the irish buyers. In this magazine article there was a photo of civilians with rifles. The Text was: Some of the men carry the rifle in their right shoulder, some on the left shoulder , others carry it like an umbrella under their arm, but you can see their proud faces, being the first armed irishmen since 1798. Also a Denkmal/monument(??) was shown, where one of the figurines (?) carried a M71 rifle and the other one a C96 pistol.

@genericpersonx333 : I noticed your answer today. As i said, after the war of 1861-1865 the US army was reduced to a peace time stength of about 30000 men, plus the State Militias, which are today the ,National Guard'. I simply wanted to note the not so known fact, that, on paper, Ludwig ll had the same number of soldiers than the United States. On paper, between 1871 and 1918 there had been four german armies. The prussian army, 17 army corps including the troops of the Greatdukes , Dukes, Princes and Hanseatic towns. The bavarian army, 3 army corps. The saxon army, 2 army corps. The wurttembergian army, 1 army corps. But of course, this was only, to keep the small kingdoms quiet. But secret weapons transports for rebellions etc. are allways a difficult thing. In the 1860s a high rank german nobleman bought a lot of not so modern belgian firearms, because he wanted to become Duke of Schleswig- Holstein. But the belgian weapons traders noticed, that something was not not OK, and told the incident to prussian authorities and the plan failed.
