Unfortunately, repeating the same routine day after day causes us to go on auto pilot. How many times have you gotten behind the wheel of the car and made it home without remembering the trip there? Or looked at your medicine bottle and wondered, "did I just take a pill?" These deaths are so very tragic, but it can happen. An elementary school principal deviated from her daily routine and left her toddler in the hot car. It was a horrible tragedy, but not intentional. In this case, that guy's behavior and his own words were suspect from the beginning. I think the jury got it right on this one!

@January. As a teacher, I notice grammatical errors ALL the time, but really...put your red pen away and stop trolling people who are making an emotional connection in the comments!🙄

I nearly swallowed my tongue when I heard him say GF was "resting comfortably"... on that hot pavement with 3 officers restraining him!

@Valorie0221 In my opinion, I think this man deliberately left his child in the car because he was an inconvenience to his life style! The way he talked in that interview room was atrocious. The fact he actually went to that vehicle to put something in it after lunch seems very unlikely that he did not notice his poor dying or dead child in the backseat in plain sight! The jury knows more details than we do and they came to the conclusion that it was intentional. Nobody wants to believe a parent could be capable of such a horrific act, but it happens. His computer search engine even showed where he searched for heat death from a car BEFORE this even happened. Explain that one.🤔

I watched every single day of voir dire for potential jurors and they all were sent a lengthy packet of questions to fill out months in advance and then both sides had the opportunity to question then further under oath during jury selection. It took 3 weeks of this to seat a jury of 14 impartial jurors.

@dianesimpson5887 I agree. That statement he made to Genevieve Hansen, the bystander/firefighter about him deciding when a response was complete was shockingly over the top! I am sure he feels an enormous amount of pressure to maintain order in his courtroom, but gee whiz! I would not want to take any part of this case...juror, witness, attorneys, judge...no matter what happens, nobody really wins. A man is dead and no matter the outcome of this trial, Derek Chauvin's life will never be normal again.

@janina8559 I think his wife has some codependency issues going on.

Defense attorneys ask their clients to take notes, make comments, and write down relevant questions to aid them in their defense. That is also why the defendant is involved in side bars. He has a right to be involved in all aspects of his case. He was present for the three weeks of voir dire in selecting the jury of his peers and had input into whether or not he thought they could be impartial.

This judge knows he's got to get it right so there's no chance for appeal.

@January. You forgot to correct the run-on sentence and lack of capitalization and punctuation. Shame on you!🙄

Come on Law & Crime Network! 8 ads in a 30 minute video is absolutely RIDICULOUS!😠

Nelson, a private attorney with the firm Halberg Criminal Defense, is also being supported by a dozen-lawyer team courtesy of a $1 million legal defense fund from the Minneapolis Police and Peace Officers Association, USA Today reported.

With all these conflicting expert opinions, how can the jury possibly make an informed decision? How can you judge credibility when the jurors aren't experts themselves? IMO, this has reasonable doubt written all over it.

The defense has not even started yet. There's more still yet to be revealed.

😯Did they REALLY take a lunch break in the middle of the Medical Examiner's testimony? I feel sorry for all involved having to see the autopsy photos of that poor baby girl!

I would have wanted to see the expression (or lack there of) of Jennifer Rosenbaum's face during this testimony! 😡

Defense attorney could not even get off his butt to address the jury! So disrespectful!!! What a load of crap! Could you keep a straight face when you looked in the mirror that night?!

@lsad705 Genevieve Hansen was snarky and rolling her eyes while testifying. Judge Cahill has every right and responsibility to maintain order and respect in his courtroom. Even while admonishing her, she was talking back to the judge. That is why he got testy with her.

His wife divorced him to protect their assets. She hasn't been seen with him to protect her life.

Then why can't Shawanda Hill be called to the stand to testify what happened in that SUV before and as the police officers approached the vehicle?

Derek Chauvin agreed to plead guilty to third-degree murder days after Floyd's death, but then-Attorney General William Barr rejected the deal. Judge Cahill reinstated a third-degree murder charge in the case after the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled that the application of the count in another civilian death involving a Minneapolis police officer established precedent. Judge Cahill dismissed the third-degree murder charge in October, but granted the motion by prosecutors to reinstate the charge after hearing arguments from both sides of the case.

Judge Cahill is very respectful to his jurors knowing how hard it is to sit there testimony after testimony. He knows he can lose their attention if they don't break it up a bit. It also gives the attorneys time to catch a breather. I watch trials all the time and there are no more breaks given here than in other trials.

That fall was not funny no matter his expert opinion is.😔

@chrismas5338 I'm just pointing out that although it looks like Eric Nelson is out numbered in court, he has a team of lawyers assisting behind the scenes. Yes, he is the one doing all the heavy lifting in the court room, but he isn't entirely doing all the prep work, etc. on his own. IMO, he's doing an outstanding job at creating reasonable doubt.
1
I feel SO sorry for anyone who was forced to listen to this buffoon. I honestly gave it my best effort and just could not watch it in it's entirety.
1
Eric Nelson is a phenomenal attorney. I think your opinion is based on which side of the court you stand on not his ability to practice law.
1
@Nortius Maximus It appears I did.
1
@menagifto4584 Actually, legally every defendant has the right to the appeal process. Whether or not he does it will be the question.
