I watched every single day of voir dire for potential jurors and they all were sent a lengthy packet of questions to fill out months in advance and then both sides had the opportunity to question then further under oath during jury selection. It took 3 weeks of this to seat a jury of 14 impartial jurors.

@dianesimpson5887 I agree. That statement he made to Genevieve Hansen, the bystander/firefighter about him deciding when a response was complete was shockingly over the top! I am sure he feels an enormous amount of pressure to maintain order in his courtroom, but gee whiz! I would not want to take any part of this case...juror, witness, attorneys, judge...no matter what happens, nobody really wins. A man is dead and no matter the outcome of this trial, Derek Chauvin's life will never be normal again.

Defense attorneys ask their clients to take notes, make comments, and write down relevant questions to aid them in their defense. That is also why the defendant is involved in side bars. He has a right to be involved in all aspects of his case. He was present for the three weeks of voir dire in selecting the jury of his peers and had input into whether or not he thought they could be impartial.

This judge knows he's got to get it right so there's no chance for appeal.

@menagifto4584 Actually, legally every defendant has the right to the appeal process. Whether or not he does it will be the question.
