  1. A full week is not needed unless the Ukrainians are to receive 'trick' artillery shells... which I'm convinced are part of the package. M198 howitzers are just the ticket, as the M777 is specifically designed for air-mobile operations. The Pentagon could send hundreds of M198 howitzers and not miss any of them. It's extra mass is just the ticket for ultra-long range rounds. Ukraine is not going to helicopter around any howitzers. Without trick artillery shells, naked howitzers would be shot to pieces by Russian counter-battery fires. Ukraine is already using trick shells against Russian armor -- with amazing success. (152mm shells) The Pentagon is tooling up its ammo plants -- as Zelenskyy has already requested American made 152mm shells for his existing artillery. Eastern NATO powers could never crank out the ammo required for Ukraine's current defense. Ukraine's need is just too extensive.
