  1. Joker, you're corn fused about the apple sauce. The USDA has standards for fruits. When an apple is below USDA standards -- as a fruit -- it can't be sold in the USA in any normal channel. THESE are the apples that the foreigners converted to apple sauce. At a fundamental level, you're right, Big Government is the driver that sent Californian apples overseas for processing. (I've left out some of the complications, too.) My Grandmother owned an orchard. Believe me, she had applesauce forever during the Great Depression. The Hobos were not let inside her house.
