  1. This thread shows one failure: folks did not pick up on 'smarts' as not being a factor. Constant references to 'dumb' keep coming up. NO. You're looking at Social Conformity -- the need to 'get-by' that is driving this. Laugh tracks embedded in TV comedy broadcasts are of this nature. When we watch such shows in our bedrooms, we're predisposed to go along with the 'audio-crowd' of the laugh track. This 'go-along' laugh is usually merely in our heads. We're not actually laughing, ourselves. The persistence of laugh tracks is due to the fact that they do work. Professional laughers are a micro-industry in Hollywood. Comics have been known to stage such pros in front rows -- early in their careers -- just to get things rolling. ( In contrast, in Asian cultures, professional criers have been employed for centuries -- at funerals -- what else. ) Social conformity is built into our DNA. The only reason its less intense in men is because in our ancient past, men were so often in semi-solitary hunts. Whereas the gals were planted back at the hearth. ( For retro culture -- you can't beat Afghanistan. It's fundamentally millennia behind us.)

The threshold drops as society is ever more disrupted -- which inevitably leads those living to question their ancestral norms. This sequence has happened over and over and over down through history. Jesus had merely 12 Apostles -- and look at THAT cascade. At the time, lunatic and despotic Harod had totally disrupted Jewish society. He was Rome's puppet. As for crazy -- he killed his own son -- and modern psychiatrists rate him as quite insane. (Caligula levels of crazy.) Mohammed grew up in a totally traumatized society. I'd have to draft a book to lay it all out. No wonder his generation was looking for an oracle. It is highly significant that the elites in our own day seem to be working overtime to create global distress. Right now, Kiev is being traumatized by NATO utterances. Its top politicians realize that the jaw-jaw is killing Ukraine's economy. Direct foreign investment has just collapsed. Duh, Biden. Ironically, THIS is EXACTLY what Putin desires. His beef is that Ukraine is falling into the EU orbit -- via deal-making and direct foreign investments.
