There was a study done decades ago. In it -- to the total shock of everybody -- the gals in corporate life were using even trivial materials at a rate 50% above that of their male peers --- and we're talking about pure office drones in the insurance industry. (They love statistics.)
In the study, it was discovered that the gals just burned through office supplies such as paper clips, rubber bands, paper, pencils,... on and on.
There was no petty item that they were not burning through at enhanced tempos.
Then the study showed that they, the gals, spent less time at their desks. (Smoking was already out, they sold life insurance.) The gals simply stretched their coffee breaks, etc., a few more minutes. This was easy to compile now that every soul has to tap the company computer system.
The final result: gals are simply more expensive to keep in their seats. In the overall scheme, the firm just ate the extra expenses. While interesting, and highly indicative, they were too small to justify sex based layoffs. (And boy, would that generate a lawsuit.)
But, on the whole, gals at work are slackers.
Their minds constantly shift back to the kids and to home life. This tic is impossible to stop, and who would want to even try?
