  1. Smart munitions simply ruin WWII style tank tactics. Russia lost the chip war -- and is actually the inferior force -- though this is not yet perceived. Self-Propelled Artillery is the backbone of Russian arms. It is extremely vulnerable to smart munitions. SPA just don't have thick armor -- while they are loaded up with big ammo. Such machines are more expensive than tanks, their crews more expensive to train. Ukraine knows this -- and will be picking these machines off with all manner of weapons. Russian tank tactics assume tanks will be lost. They don't assume that their SPA will be shot to pieces. Mechanized armies just don't have spare SPA laying around. Rocket artillery is even easier to spot -- and more vulnerable. Biden is sending 'switch-blade' drones. These are invulnerable to Russian SAMs -- too small, too slow for radar detection. When they show up, it's the kiss of death for SPA troops. The boys are going to simply jump and run -- once they get 'hip' to what's happening.

  2.  @larryo6874  What I don't understand is the pitifully low numbers that Biden is proffering. If properly supplied, the Ukrainian Army would send Putin packing. The fools in the WH keep thinking like it's 1950 -- and that tanks, etc. rule the fight. Smart munitions have made tanks mere coffins. Steel armor must lose to silicon smarts. This has simply not sunk in. Digging in, a WWII gambit, just does not work versus Javelin/ switch-blade. The Ukrainians are very wisely not concentrating their forces. This means that Russian batteries have no viable targets to shoot at. Additionally, ever since WWI it has been the rule that ammo -- the stuff you really want to use -- runs out in less than two-weeks. Putin has been noted for his shift to new and novel weapons. What is being over-looked -- he is simply out of the stuff that the Russian Army would've picked first. E.G. the missile strike in Western Ukraine didn't need a hyper-sonic weapon. It was used because Putin had it in the cupboard. Its use also was a sales demo for New Delhi. The American generals (ret.) are pulling their punches. They see what I see: silicon beats steel. Putin is blinded by hope. He's retro -- to the max.

  3. The underlying cause: Russia/USSR had virtually no civilian autos for the boys to learn motor vehicle mechanics on. During WWII, virtually every GI was used to fiddling with Model T Fords. They were simple, dirt cheap, and everywhere. What this meant was that the US Army scarcely ever had to train GIs to drive jeeps. The US had mechanically semi-trained boys by the million. No other nation had that bounty. Russia still is retro. The moment you get away from the big cities, the boys are back on horses. I see that John Deere is now a Big Name in Ukraine. This is a tribute to its freer market. US farmers, for years, have cross-trained Ukrainians in American style farming. Naturally many talked up John Deere. Like truckers, farmers have their favorites. You can bet that the young farmers in Ukraine are now quite comfortable with machines. WWII was tragic. WWZ is looking like utter folly. Putin is destroying something all armies hold dear: their reputation. The reason America's enemies fear the USMC: They've all seen John Wayne taking Iwo Jima. It's impossible to miss: the Ukrainians feel like, act like, fight like WINNERS. Every one feels like Leonidas -- but fighting to a different script. Historically, an invading // attacking army loses 1% per day when confronting a moderate defense. This is your best guestimate for Putin's losses. They must be over 40,000 now -- from all causes -- no small amount from desertion. This is to be expected by conscripts that have been lied to. Indeed, Putin lied to even his senior commanders. That's why the Russian Army is such a cluster. None of the top brass though that they needed to stock up for an actual campaign. That's why the troops have no food rations. That also bleeds over into how much ammo they started with. Putin can't resupply his army -- because the ammo stocks don't exist -- even back at the barracks. I expect that his strategic reserve is now coming down from Moscow. But, it's too late. Mud has arrived. Putin's project is road-bound. Traditionally, the soil dries up around May First. That's why, in Russia & Ukraine the traditional fighting season begins May First. I was shocked that Putin invaded only two-weeks before mud season.

  4.  @kdblr  Stop. The Indians were fighting Pakistanis -- a police state with rampant corruption in its military ranks. It's also a 'tiny' nation compared to the Indian colossus. Russian digital electronics is utterly dependent upon imported stuff. I can see that Putin's military exports have bought New Delhi's soul. The world is witnessing as much propaganda from India as it is from Red China. Your nation has bought military junk from an amoral regime. But at least the price was right. No way did any Indian politicians receive kick-backs from Mr. Ethical -- Mr. Putin./s

  5. @BlackholeTtson452 Smart munitions make it impossible for Russian machines to defend themselves. Digging in, WWII style, just does not work. Knights in armor found that they could not stop bullets. Tanks have supplanted knights in their helplessness. This conflict will prove to the world that steel armor can't defeat silicon smarts.

  6.  @matthewspaeth4669  They have no non-commissioned officers in the Western sense. All of their NCOs are 30-day wonders. It's ironic, back in the Soviet era, Ukrainians were usually instant sergeants in Soviet tank armies. Yes, instant sergeants right out of basic. (In the Soviet era, Ukrainians were not permitted to be officers.) Crazy is as crazy does.

  7.  @larryo6874  Switch-blades should do the trick. Putin has no counter for them. BTW, Putin can't enter a city without massed artillery. Tanks get slaughtered in city fighting.
