This crazy surge in missile consumption by Putin strikes one as a repetition of Adolf's last gasp in the Ardennes. Putin has committed his strategic reserve of conventionally armed missiles. ( Those with strategic range.) The intent, like V-2 strikes, is hugely psychological. Though weak, Putin wishes to be deemed strong. The targets should've been hit by his air force -- not his missile force. One might think that Putin is trying to provoke NATO into jumping into the soup. By now Putin wishes he could call up levée en masse; but since he's not at war, he can't. He needs a 're-frame' of his invasion for the proles.

@wamnicho Putin's tank park is largely Siberian rust. Yeah, they're in the snow.

@aabb8011 Russian tank losses are truly epic. Many have been recorded by drone photos -- and geo-located. The last stats I saw showed Russian tank losses up past 700. But, after a fashion, the stat is irrelevant. What IS relevant is that pre-war tank tactics have proven ruinous. The crews have become demoralized, profoundly so. We all should keep in mind that the Russians are losing their stuff via the death of ten-thousand cuts: two to four tanks at a time. T-72 are being sniped into oblivion. WWII tactics are dead, dead, dead. The talking-heads have yet to accept this. 'Cope cages' -- reactive armor -- are totally ineffective when NLAWs or Javelins are employed. The auto-loader so popular in Russian tank design has proven to be a coffin maker. Photo after photo shows that the turret is popped every last time a hit is scored. Indeed, one wonders why Kyiv is even clamoring for additional T-72 machines.

@aabb8011 No. These are (NATO gift) T-72 that don't even have reactive armor. I can see them cannibalized for spare parts. As for the T-64... it would appear that this particular model was manufactured in Kharkiv. Since that city was the birthplace of the T-34, perhaps that was the only tank factory producing that model. ( Since the Soviets never were all that blabby about where their gear was manufactured, who knows? ) If Kharkiv was the T-64 plant, it would go a long way towards explaining why Ukraine has so many of these machines. In its early career, the T-64 was restricted to Moscow parades -- just like the T-14. It was super-special secret. On current trends, I don't see you being promoted up to Cc Dd. But, with effort, you might make it. For now, you're still an NPC... the truth comes harsh, I know.
