  1. This Lt. Col. out of touch. There will be no pockets// encirclements during Mud Season. The whole reason Putin pulled back from Kyiv was because MUD was coming. He was about to lose ALL of his boys in the swamp. Why did the USSR build Chernobyl where they did ? Because it was a SWAMP. No-one lived there -- to speak of. This mega-swamp feeds the Dnieper River. (As a side note: the Russian Army now has to treat radiation sickness -- on a grand scale.) Putin's boys are road (bound) warriors. Adolf's panzer troops noted the same phenomenon 80-years ago. The Russians did not conquer a lot of territory -- they picked up a lot of road-miles. Note how fast the 1st Guards Tank Army was able to 'retrograde' back to Mother Russia. Heh. They could do so by just turning around and following the road home; because they had never spread out in the first place.

  2. Where is the Freedom Fairy when you need her ? BTW, the vast bulk of our expenditures in Afghanistan were of a 'do-gooding' nature. Stuff like building schools in the sticks -- except that the local chiefs would always steal the money -- if at all possible. Without the West's largesse, the Afghans are suddenly starving. Now that Pakistan is running the place, it's time Islamabad steps-up. (The Taliban (Students) were always Pakistan's proxy army. The Taliban never had any other patron, something the West's press has kept quiet about... even now.)
