@farmerjohn6526 Putin has written it all out. He wants to bring back the USSR, with Putin calling the shots. Consequently, the Baltic states are freaking out; so too Moldova. (The latter has no army and no alliances.)

@djl5634 I'd term Putin's scheme as closer to Corporatism -- hence his back-bench of Oligarchs. Russia seems almost devoid of mid-sized business firms. You have a slew of mom & pop sized retail businesses -- and a phalanx of cronies running Putin's favored giants. (The Russian equivalent of the Fortune 500.) Putin's Big Firms are usually structured as conglomerates. As you dive deep, you find that most 'cover the waterfront.' They don't need -- or want -- to out-source their needs to any mid-sized firm. In this, they echo the structure, the 'logic,' of Stalin's USSR. In his time, his mega industrial factories took raw materials all the way to final product. The American idea of OEM supplier chains was anathema to Stalin. (There never could be a Nipon Denso or AC Delco in his grand scheme.) Stalin's notions still hobble modern Russia. Coercion has long replaced trust.

The Pentagon is right: ~30 Migs will have NO real impact. Ukraine is largely flying off of highways -- not airbases. Migs are designed for such rough duty. Putin wants to re-frame his war as NATO versus Russia. THAT'S why he's conducting emotionally laden attacks. He WANTS Western blood to boil. He wants the West to pull escalate; to pull his chestnuts out of the fire. Putin is best defeated by ten-thousand cuts: Stingers, Javelins, NLAWs, ... etc. Their distribution is already in play. MOST of them have yet to reach the battlespace. MUD is going to entirely de-rail mechanized warfare. It did in Napoleon (his canons); it did in Adolf (his trucks); it will do in Vlad's war machine. Immobile tanks = mere targets for NLAWs. These British ATGMs can strike from outside the range of small arms.

@Shewib That's a very low hurdle.
