@Dweeble233 The Western idea of 'love' dates from the Cathars, in France about 1,000 years ago. It's actually a RELIGIOUS axiom.
For the Cathars, true love was ALWAYS by an average Joe to an UNATTAINABLE woman -- typically of the peerage. It was to be a frustrated love, of course. It pops up in Western fiction in the legend of King Arthur -- wherein the princess is the love interest of the perfect knight -- but marriage to the king's lady is -- obviously -- impossible.
Poets found this notion to be wonderful -- and many a tale has been spun about frustrated, ardent, suitors as a result.
You will not find its equivalent in Eastern cultures. It's strictly a Western 'thing.'
Now it has morphed to the point that gals ALSO want to obtain 'perfect love.'
The fact that, for Cathars, such a love must NEVER result in satisfaction, in marriage or in children is lost on moderns.
BTW, you might note that in MANY Western fictions the hero is never to be married -- oft seen in TV dramas.
This is an echo of Cathar 'logic.'
