In this, the USSR was repeating its WWII/Great Patriotic War philosophy. This philosophy was based on the fact that the survival life of a combat tank figured to be measured in minutes if not kilometers. Hence, quantity of production was paramount, long running life was NOT. For this reason, absolutely no-one would ever consider a Soviet tank even comparable to a Western tank where the design philosophy was totally reversed.
