  1. At 5:35 the German salutes an American officer who is wearing the Medal of Honor insignia. The latter really stands out due to its unique light blue color. It is, of course, always to be worn above all other insignia. It's plain, without sound, that the German has just been informed that he's standing in front of an officer so rare. Hence, his sustained salute.
