The THIRD probability is that we're not alone but will ALWAYS be out of communication with any other sentient being since such life is so RARE. This is founded on the reality that the earliest star and their galaxies are/were TOO VIOLENT for life to evolve. Meaning that the vast, vast majority of galaxies are totally hostile to life. The Universe was vastly denser in the beginning. So collisions destroyed life before it really got going. Supernovas would be so close that budding life was always destroyed. The density of matter would assure that massive stars were the norm. The ONLY galaxies that could sustain intelligent life are those in galactic-near-space. One must write-off the distant Cosmos... that portion of space that holds the vast, vast majority of matter. It's not for nothing that Earth lies at the outer reaches around a small star in a small galaxy. There is NO-WAY that systems much closer in to our Mother Black Hole can sustain life. My bet is that there is but one or two viable planets in our entire galaxy and that in the entire Universe there are but a few hundred such planets -- and every last one is staggeringly far away from any neighbor. We are all alone in Space-Time and it will always remain that way.
