  3. Dude, you missed one salient point. The Purge ALWAYS goes after high functioning individuals first. (cf Stalin) The Replacements are inferior talents -- but loyal -- especially so since they don't deserve their new positions. Stalin carried this to the extreme in 37-39 until the Red Army was over-run with incompetent officers. He had to reverse course in '40 -- pulling many out of the gulag. (Rossikovski, et al) By this mechanism, Putin is gutting his officer corps. It won't stop at senior levels. It never does.

  4. The Russian approach is to insist that the entire crew remain on board. They do NOT have any provision on land for their sailors. (Otherwise, they'd flee.) Russian ships, TBH, stink like toilets. I know, I've been on one. And it was dressed up for show. (!)

  9. TRD: The UA was supposed to march south to the Sea of Azov this Winter -- but a deep cold never came. (This also happened in the Winter of 1943-44.) So, Kyiv has concentrated on pure defense -- and force generation. In three-months, Zelenskyy will have three tank brigades with NATO standard tanks. He'll also have F-16s -- from NATO members -- if not the USA. This war will end because Putin will fall from power -- due to military reverses. Putin CAN'T negotiate. The 'Olaf Ending' can never occur.

  10. TRD:: I only have one disagreement -- I don't think that the UA should wait to move east -- up north. As they advance, they destroy the morale of all Russians in the three cities. It's plain that the RA has no viable combat formations up north. Only the weather (rain & mud) hold back the UA. Mud Season is approaching at speed -- so if the UA is to do anything -- it must do so quickly -- before cross-country mobility is completely gone. Every kilometer of advance is sure to cause MORE riots back in Mother Russia. Putin's draft is a suicide project for all dragooned souls. I'm convinced that the RA lacks sufficient off-road trucks to support 'detached' combat troops in the villages in front of the UA. Social media holds tales of starving Russian// LPR// DPR 'zombies' entering UA prison cages... lacking proper clothing for Autumn.

Stalin and Adolf were BOTH to attack on September 1st. That was the deal. Stalin, not Adolf, set the date. He also set the division line. This is why the German Army never advanced eastward even after the Polish Army was defeated. For some reason, the West never quite picked up on this reality. When the two armies met, the generals celebrated by marching their tanks -- in series! First it would be a German panzer, next a Soviet tank, next a German panzer,.... This was filmed and distributed in both Nazi Germany and the USSR. The West took the same footage -- and simply cut-out the Soviet tanks. This latter, butchered footage, is to be seen just everywhere in Western video histories. The original footage, showing the Soviet tanks, is very hard to come across. Stalin sandbagged Adolf. This is how almost all popular accounts STILL point the entire blame for WWII on Adolf. But, the proximate actor was Stalin. (!) Until he crafted his deal of the century, Adolf was -- actually -- boxed in. This deal blew up 'Munich.' The British and French and Poles never saw it coming. Neither did the German military. Neither did the Soviet Foreign Minister. (!)

The others are either too small or too wishy-washy. Moscow built its army on the supposition that its artillery would always overwhelm. Then, the US gave HIMARS (GMLRS) to Zelenskyy -- with unlimited resupply. It has destroyed the Russian artillery arm. Period.

  35.  @teamidris  SAMs can be converted to ground to ground munitions by simply aiming towards a ballistic path -- using their integral radar control -- and then letting the missile drop like the old V-2. The S-300 did require some modification -- namely that it's self-destruct logic had to be cut-out. As the V-2 showed, the impact of a multi-mach missile doubles the power of its warhead. I rather suspect that the actual missile that hit Poland WAS a Russian one -- but that NATO recognized a low-level screw-up when they saw it. NATO was not going to rise to the bait. Still, the incident did trigger yet MORE aid for Zelenskyy... a lot more.

  40. M113 and BMPs are amphibious. Crossing the river is not the problem. It's STAYING there. The UA gambit is to freeze the RA in place. That's sufficient to totally screw-up the RA.

  41.  @clavo3352  You've lost the plot. The UA is merely freezing the RA in place... as best as possible. Winter is freezing the Russians, too. I have no doubt that for a while, here, the UA is focused on straightening out civil society. Note the restoration of train travel to Kherson city. That fix also brings every manner of repair materials, generators, fuel, etc. After a time, I expect the UA to launch yet another counter-offensive. It could be anywhere... but the odds favor a drive to the Sea of Azov. They don't favor city fighting. The UA has turned down city fighting every step of the way -- unless it's defensive fighting. In winter, it's quite unnecessary to use the road network. The ground is FLAT -- remarkably so. During WWII neither the Krauts or the Soviets could establish any decent defense in this whole zone... going either way. The UA has HIMARS and it destroys the RA's artillery arm. But that destruction does take time. For the area under discussion, the trees are bare, the ground is flat, and there are no crops to hide within. The only defense is overcast skies.

Next, the KGB was FINANCING the anti-War movement -- not at first -- but soon, Moscow got on it. This is NOT happening in Russia, today. In both cases, such decisions -- the entire logic of Presidential interventioning -- ended up as pure insanity.
