Chivalry is strictly a Western cultural tic -- you cannot find its equal in the Orient, in India, in Russia, in Africa. The Catholic Church wiped out the Cathars -- but the old poets LOVED the idea of idealic love. It became a template for how low born men should woo high born gals... a total non-starter, of course.
