  1. The German FLAK guns shot clean through the thin fabric of the Swordfish. They all landed with lots of holes. But being biplanes, they were hard to cripple. The only way to down such a plane was by hitting the pilot. To do that the Bismark needed tons of heavy machine guns. She didn't have any.
