Russia is a vodka republic. It can't afford bananas. It certainly can't grow them.

@dimwitsixtytwelve Actually, Moscow has forgotten about the Baltic Fleet. It gets the hind teat during funding and deployments. Now that Sweden and Finland are NATO players -- the Baltic Fleet has no military purpose. It can't defend Kaliningrad. (Never could.) It can't sail west without NATO grace.

@Zarastro54 But the Russian air force was -- and remains -- totally sufficient for the task. The Black Sea Fleet was and is a total waste. It's a vanity fleet. Dreaming that it has any utility -- just gets one into trouble.

@dimwitsixtytwelve I can say from personal experience -- Russian naval ships smell like urinals. Used vodka has to go somewhere.
