I could not believe Putin's timing -- because MUD was so soon to come.
I only realized that Putin's invasion was certain on 2-18-2022. He gave a 'tell.'
I flatly reject the crazy notion that the GRU was caught napping.
Putin simply would not hear contrary intel -- so his toadies didn't dare bring such naughty items up to their boss. Now they're under house arrest.
Because of levée en masse, Zelenzkyy has a larger army than Putin. It merely lacks training, uniforms, boots, helmets... and weapons. Heh.
So long as the West keeps sending in Smart ATGMs -- Putin is toast.
Mud + Smart Munitions => a sticky death for any mechanized army.
Sanctions have actually shut down Putin's two biggest tank factories.
They had become reliant upon Western imports. (microchips & bearings)
Reserve tanks have been revealed to be inert upon call-up. Oops.
For such a modest invasion army, Putin's boys have lost a very hefty fraction of their front-line combat power.
During Barbarossa, all panzer accounts stressed that the campaign was a 'road-war.' That's all that they controlled.
During Iraq, (2003) the American Army also conducted a 'road-war.'
Putin, right now, is stuck in his own 'road-war.' He does not control the vast expanses that all the maps show -- just the paved roads.
BTW, the Crimea is directly connected to the Kuban with twin bridges: rail and highway.
Putin does not need ports on the Sea of Azov, but they would be handy.
