Comments by "David Himmelsbach" (@davidhimmelsbach557) on "If Ukraine continues to beat Russia Putin is doomed | Daniel Johnson interview" video.
Daniel is unaware that Europe was importing met coal from Russia for the purposes of keeping its blast furnaces running. Only a trivial amount of steam coal came from Russia. Met coal is so expensive that no-one ever uses it to raise steam. As you'd expect, the average talking-head conflates the two. Greens didn't object much to met coal because its critical -- and all in all -- minor. Met coal is also known as coking coal -- and the deposits of met coal in the Donbass are what makes it so industrially important -- going back a century. Mariupol was a Steel City -- same as Pittsburgh or Gorky/ Nizhny Novgorod or Essen.

Iain, Putin wants acceptance of his land grab. That's not in the cards. Imperial Russia was built one bite at a time. So Putin is rather fine with just a hunk -- for now. He still wants the Baltics and Poland inside his empire.

They watch the news.

Suda: Then pay attention. Napoleon and Adolf gained scads of territory -- doing so was the end of them.

@sudacaenny They get their lands back when Putin is deposed -- which is his sure fate upon defeat at war. Folks have to get out of their heads the zany notion that Kyiv ever needs to crush the Russian Army. (in the field) Merely bleeding it white (ruining Putin's project) is more than sufficient to have him run out of the Kremlin. Ivan may be slow to get the news; but he is unforgiving of failure at war. Moscow is not going to pull the atomic trigger when merely getting rid of Putin solves the problem. Putin has been purging every state organ because he knows how narrow his base is. VPN leak-by is certain to ruin Putin's war narrative -- all to soon. The reason that Putin can't invoke levée en masse is that it would trigger a wholesale revolt -- and his snappy departure. He would rather crawl through shattered glass than talk to Zelenskyy. For by doing so, Putin would ipso facto be recognizing Ukraine as a peer nation. So, Macron's pitch has no traction.

True. It means no levée en masse. Putin dreads pulling that lever.

Putin has lost. Deal with it. The last arrow in his quiver is his artillery arm. The American MLRS eats howitzers for breakfast. That's explicitly what it was designed to do. When first used, (1991), the MLRS destroyed entire artillery brigades with a single volley. Adjacent brigades, witnessing, fled -- officers, first. The MLRS out ranges ALL Russian artillery... including rocket artillery.

Bene: Putin is painting-the-tape. Base rate interest dropping down to 17% -- sheesh. Putin has income he can't spend -- rather like a narco-baron. It now sits, same as box-top coupons, piled up in 'Putin's garage.'
