@samsonsoturian6013 Hawaii, Honolulu in particular. The Chinese section of the city caught on fire and pretty much the whole district burned down. All the while, there was water running right through it to the harbor. To the Hawaiians and Haoles, the utter chaos and chatter was beyond belief. This was the first time that any Chinatown burned had down entirely. The fact that under such stress, no-one could understand a word they were saying (in Cantonese) got a meme going... before memes even existed. The word "drill" was quite inappropriate as the tragedy was no drill. The chaos was hugely due to Chinese culture. Each merchant ignored his neighbor -- even though their properties abutted. In sum, the Chinese didn't work together. China and Russia are low-trust cultures and have been this way for generations. America, Sweden, Germany and Japan are high trust societies... though America is rapidly losing this trait. It's massively importing folks from low trust societies. Low trust is the underlying driver of racism. Mexico is low trust, hence the persistence of the cartels. Watch "Traffic" one more time to see the dynamic. When trust goes low enough, civil war erupts -- and China and Russia have had some brutal ones.
