The Romans had a Jew, Josephus, re-craft the crucifixion to shift the blame away from Rome onto the conquered, the Jews. No-one has ever found contemporary documents to support his narrative. When he wrote, the diaspora was old news. ( He was 30-years late to that story. ) Consequently, EVERYTHING scholars have tussled with is in grave doubt. I, myself, find it impossible to believe that Pilate gave a second thought as to what this or that Jew thought about rabbi Jesus... for He certainly was a Jewish rabbi. Jesus never preached to the gentiles. What did Him in HAD TO BE His throngs of followers. That's all it would take. Elsewhere in the Roman Empire, fellows who developed quite a following were whacked out of hand all the time. The Romans wiped out the Druids (Celtic clergy) -- to a man -- and -- but months later -- crushed Jewish clergy in Palestine. Obviously, no Jewish rabbi is going to ever plead with the Romans for them to crucify a fellow rabbi. It just could NEVER happen. BTW, a Jew achieves rabbi status by knowing the Scriptures front to back -- and by being an authority that other Jews look to. Jesus qualified on both counts. He was crucified not because of the religious doctrines He preached but because He was seen as way too popular and one who could plainly lead any rebellion with his charisma. Spartacus was not forgotten.
