  1. Nazi crimes in the East were WELL KNOWN. So the Ostheer fought to the bitter end on that basis alone. In the West, you had two-phases. Until the collapse in the West, the boys thought that they had a chance and that their cause was 'just.' This latter point being crafted by Dr. Goebbels. In the final months, the boys in the West started dropping their rifles just all over the place. So, they DIDN'T fight to the bitter end.
