Crete was actually the turning point for WWII. WHY? Because Adolf refused to use his parachute troops for their intended role from that point onwards. Further, the critical troops for all of the fun came from Army Group North... mostly. Greece even cost the Germans the 2nd Panzer Division. The British sunk it while it was sailing from Greece over to Italy after the campaign was over. It was the strongest panzer division in the German Army. It had to be entirely 're-tanked' because it had fed the ocean. In the original planning for Barbarossa, the parachute boys were supposed to 'solve Leningrad' by totally cutting it off from rail supply with a parachute drop or two. Plan A went into the circular file as a result of Crete. Had Leningrad fallen very early in the campaign, every thing would've been different. Its port would've had a huge impact on German logistics -- and its loss would've freed up two panzer corps... and the parachute boys. So Crete was a Pyrrhic victory for Adolf.
