The same forces that caused relentless volcanoes across Indonesia caused ancient oil strata to lose its 'cap rock structure.' To have an oil deposit, you need a LID of rock to keep the oil in place -- that we can then drill and pipe away. Something like this occurred in the Beafort Sea, north of Alaska. Every effort was a dry hole. The Arctic ice long, long ago ripped open the over-cap above the oil deposit. There's nothing left. And it all looked so promising.
