I must bring up that the largest single fractio of Rommel's trucks were carrying water. This is not surprising. During the 1990-91 campaign, the US and Britain were dedicating entire fleets of trucks just to portage water. If the Italians or Germans had ANY moxie at all they would've drilled for WATER. Libya sits atop an aquifer that spans virtually border to border and border to sea. The water is still very much there and still is very much easy drilling even with Italian or German technology of eighty-years ago. Strangely, even the Americans did not punch holes. I guess they were leaving for Sicily and Italy too soon to care.
