The Germans had no conception of Arctic warfare conditions. In the long days of Summer there are no end of mosquitos. It's so bad that you can bleed to death. Their legendary rotten logistics were first exposed in Finland. The Nazis did just about everything wrong. As for tank warfare, the Arctic is loaded with short trees that grow like a slow grass. This is therefore totally rotten ground for tanks. The Austrian troops should've always been sent into AGN from the first. The Finns lost all respect for OKH, and Adolf. To buck them up, Hitler sent his very first Tiger tanks to AGN --- and promptly lost them. He was on the phone directing the Tiger advance! IIRC Speer has this in his war bio. Of note, the Finns were not sought for Winter War advice. (!!!!) This was just another indicator that OKH didn't know what they were doing. Nickel was a war critical resource.
