Right from the start you've got the history wrong. OBL was trying to kidnap and ransom CIA agents back in Afghanistan LONG before the USSR fell. His crew became notorious to the CIA back in the 1980s! He also was not all that close to the Pakistani military -- just some fellows in the ISI -- which does its own 'thing.' ( Pakistan has been in a long slo-mo civil war, going back decades. This is why its politics are crazy. ) ( It's still underway, unresolved. )
