  1. Professor, you've got EVERYTHING backwards. In his role as corruption fighter, Putin got 'the goods' on Yeltsin's extended family corruption -- which was vast. Putin FORCED Yeltsin to promote himself, Putin, to the top slot -- in exchange for Putin's total backing/ burial of all of the sordid details. THIS is why Putin threatened the Duma. Sheesh. Putin imposed a back-door tax scheme on the Oligarchs as a class. They had to become his stooges -- in every way. Putin was doing to them what he'd already done to Yeltsin. One of their financial roles was to rebate kick backs to Putin's political machine. The other role was to paint Russia as largely equivalent to Red China -- economically -- as if it was a great place to make profits -- from commodity exports -- not cheap labor. Putin was NEVER a 'spy.' The top slots in the KGB went to liars -- propagandists & manipulators -- deception is Putin's wheelhouse. Putin is multilingual, has an IQ > 140 ( Same as Macron. ) and is still in over his head. Adolf ruined his own armies. Putin has the same gift.
