  1. You've got it wrong. Her husband already HAD diplomatic immunity. He and she were not in the US military. The tragedy occurred because she crossed over to drive like an American on a British road. She should've never sat at the wheel. She rarely drove even back in the US.

  2. It's no secret. It's got a HUGE radar that is dual use. It is tied into NASA so that even in the daze of Mercury astronauts had world-wide communications -- almost. (In the 60s even NASA had a dead spot over the Indian Ocean. IIRC, the USN stationed a communications ship there -- on the down low -- when NASA needed it. Pine Gap also 'talks to' deep space probes. In its spare time Pine Gap may be able to catch Soviet and Red Chinese missile launches East into the Pacific. We also have treaty-ships -- painted all white -- that monitor missile tests as the warhead plunges into the ocean. The crews go out of their minds with boredom. Missiles rise so high, so fast, that Pine Gap actually has a direct shot at their flights.

  3. Thule is a famous US base. It was established as a RADAR base and later expanded as a pit stop bomber base for DefCon 2. It's usually snowed in.

  4. There are DARK elements that are of necessity not auditable. Duh. E.G. The SR-71 cost absolutely NOTHING -- if you jump on the paperwork. It's just the tip of the spear. BTW, many of the bases exist because the host nation WANTS the US there. Any attempt to pull out causes a political storm in the host nation. During the Cold War one Lt General -- as an exercise -- tried to relocate a corps headquarters -- ONLY -- as part of the simulation of conflict. West Germany went spastic. He had to stop the exercise. He was made the scape goat, too. What happened was that all of the locals started to flee Westward. Broadcasts from the authorities that this was just an exercise were dismissed out of hand by Germans. When Carter proposed pulling most of the 2nd Infantry out of South Korea -- it caused an international storm. North Korea actually began warming up its war machine -- just on the prospect. Nothing had actually happened. THAT'S why there are so many trip-wire bases overseas. Poland, RIGHT NOW, is begging Trump, next Biden, to plant multiple NATO bases within Poland. They remember 1939. They want a trip-wire commitment like everybody else.
