  1. The problem with Assange is that he only exposed embarrassments to the West -- America in particular -- since Americans have First Amendment protections not available elsewhere in the West. ( Britain, France, et. al don't have anything like the American First Amendment. ) In most Western countries, you need a state granted license to regularly speak on TV or Radio. Elsewhere, things are far, far worse. (Belarus, Russia, Red China...) Assange made it impossible for the US to prosecute mercenaries who badly behaved in Iraq -- by trying them in the media. Result: they got off Scot-free. At the same time, Assange sabotaged Western intelligence agencies -- and certainly caused the death of many -- by exposure. The Red Chinese broke into the CIA's comms -- and whacked all of its agents in Red China. No correlation with Assange has ever been asserted. But you can see what even a single penetration can do to the West. Naturally, Assange has done wonders to scare off any other souls from cooperating with the West. He has been willing to imprison himself rather than go to trial. (The embassy bit.) During that period -- he proved to be a total pest for Ecuador... a very lousy house guest. He's a piece of work, he is. Ultimately, Assange brought discredit to whistle-blowers. He also became a tool of Moscow. They just LOVED using him as a cut-out for propaganda points. That idea never seems to have crossed his mind.
