Wesley is wrong: Mud Season means that tank warfare -- WWII style -- is in hiatus. The Ukrainians simply out-number the Russians. They are short on weapons -- still. It is paralyzing for ANY tank army to see the enemy roaming around through their lines at night -- with Smart ATGMs. The old TOW (Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided BGM-71(A,B,C,D,E,F) was an ATGM -- but required a human operator every second of flight. NLAWs and Javelins are so smart that they DON'T require a human operator. BTW, the old TOW system has astounding range. In 1981, such missiles could kill tanks at 8,000 meters. Wiki's numbers are 'half-off.' Heh. Such shots require mighty flat terrain -- just what Putin must cross to encircle the Ukrainians. IIRC, Biden has sent some of these to Ukraine. The deal's specifics are not yet available.

@MC-ot7xl It's Mud Season. So for the next five-weeks there can be no mobile warfare. Ukraine's ammo comes from the West. The West will merely ship in refined products now that the Odessa refinery complex is crippled. Right from the start, Odessa was cut off from oceanic trade. No doubt that Putin figured that he was righteously retaliating for Kyiv's attack near Belgorod. Tales of Putin looking for a proper victory parade this May would require him to pull off a military miracle. My nose tells me that the 1st Guards Tank Army is now in trouble. It's super extended, logistically, and figures to be savaged by the Ukrainian Army. Gutting this army while it's still deployed towards Kyiv is just too obvious a play. Shattered brigades can be of little help -- as only squared away formations have any offensive punch. I find it amazing that Putin has not had meaningful success across the Donbass. The idea that Putin can race around to the west of the Ukrainian Army -- encircling it -- is fanciful. It's Mud Season. Smart ATGMs love (enemy) mobile deployments -- trench warfare -- not so much.
