If you parse the pitches: Azovstal STILL has a residual force of die-hard defenders in its super-bunker. The cripples sent off to their fates in Putin-land were not holding off the Russian Army by themselves. Famously, to the Bolsheviks, the fortress of Brest-Litovsk held out for days (chronic sniping) even after the garrison was crushed. To Soviets, its battle is the 'Alamo' of WWII. I have to assume that the Azov battalion fought like lions because of Brest-Litovsk's legend.

The whole Black Sea has always been considered a Russian lake. (The USN owns the ocean, blue) Ukraine doesn't have a navy -- just a Coast Guard to stop smugglers and criminals.

In what world are you living ? Like the Americans of Corregidor (May 1942) -- there was never a prospect that relief of the garrison was ever possible. Hanging up the enemy for weeks was a grand tactical success for the defenders. Their battle now shifts into legend. After Putin crashes and burns -- the next Russian government will want normalization. Repatriating the Azov boys will be a requirement for that. Otherwise, Russia is destined to be a hermit superpower... until it's not so super any more.

@johnjohnson9596 It's an INVOLUNTARY surrender. AKA capitulation at the end of a long siege. Sheesh. Grand Tactically: Putin lost the siege. It took too long, cost too much, tied down too many troops when they were critically needed elsewhere. One of the reasons that Zelenskyy ordered the garrison to stop fighting was that their resistance was no longer needed. The UA had become much more powerful over the last ten-weeks. Whereas the Russian Army still has a huge artillery advantage, the Ukrainian Army now has a hefty infantry advantage. It's infantry that is driving 1st Guards Tank Army nuts up around Kharkiv. The UA is behaving like it has a 5:1 infantry advantage, up north. Putin simply can't man a continuous front with so few invaders.

@aaronhill212 Destruction of the enemy army is always Task One.

@Jimmy The CIA couldn't plan a church social. As proof: I offer its legacy. The Maidan revolution was funded by George Soros. He's probably the 'Nazi' you're looking for. [He's had a hard on for Moscow ever since he fled Hungary in 1956. He's been involved in every Warsaw Pact land, ex-Russia.] [ Yes, he's looking to topple Minsk -- even as I type.] Yes, he's a kook. He even has his own bond film: Quantum of Solace. (The plot turns on rigged resource scarcity. Hum....) ( Soros made his Wall Street mark with his Quantum fund. Hint... hint.) Soros has made the vast bulk of his staggering fortune by attacking governments. He still has a felony warrant waiting in Paris. His life's goal is to destroy the US government and its currency. (Yeah, he's pretty blabby.)
