  1. High Speed Rail = boondoggle. Every American expects the Other Guy to ride the beast -- so that the super highways will open up for himself. In Japan, Europe and Red China all such rail systems are operated at staggering losses. American airlines run -- in normal times -- at a profit. The vacuum of high altitude makes it MORE fuel efficient to fly from Seattle to New York than to travel by Amtrak -- it's not even close.
