@aamnahere6250 Not quite. The male lion has one unique Darwinian advantage -- his mane.
The hyena has only ONE killing scheme -- going for the throat. The adult male has so much hair that hyenas are hence frustrated.
In every other sense, the mane is a genetic liability. It makes the male overheat -- and heating is a big issue for the big cats.
A male lion's power is so great that should a hyena manage to grab a limb -- it can't stand the counter-move.
The mane is the primary reason that male lions lay around all day. They dare not work up a sweat.
Further, hyenas much prefer to attack, in packs, at night. The male lion consequently gets no rest -- all night long -- 365 days a year.
With him around, the gals and kits can nod off. BTW, it usually takes two brothers to pull such duty.
BTW, ancient cave paintings, where and when hyenas didn't exist, show male lions without a mane... just his organ.
The mane is a pretty recent Darwinian adaptation. If its big and DARK, the gals go absolutely crazy for him.
