Lost most function in my right hand a few years ago, severed at the wrist, all tendons and nerves. For my first physical therapy appointment, the receptionist was missing most of her left arm but was flipping through papers like anyone else would've been. I can't really use my hand but it hasn't had anywhere near the impact on my life as something like this. We never truly understand until we're in the same boat. The strength these people have to not just give up, it's inspiring.
