  2.  @benjamingrant3441  "Responding" to what, exactly? Russia doesn't control Ukraine. Russia invaded their neighbor, again. It's not protection, it's aggression. Russia could try minding their own business and not committing multiple crimes against humanity, for once.

  3.  @henryseidel5469  I'm pretty sure it was all the invaded and killing of civilians over the past few decades which did it. Then there's the multiple crimes against humanity. Russia doesn't need help in making their neighbors afraid. Nobody is afraid of NATO except Russia and their puppet states. The countries people go to for vacation want to join NATO. Nobody wants to vacation to Syria.

  5.  @henryseidel5469  You've got it backwards. Even today, Russia has shown themselves to be a hostile aggressor to their neighbors, multiple times. Being an armed threat is what's known as a "deterrent". Look it up.

  6.  @henryseidel5469  NATO hasn't marched anywhere. NATO is a collective. Russia invaded Ukraine, not the other way around.

  7.  @henryseidel5469  You seem to be under the delusion that Russia has the right to decide what other countries can and cannot do. What you describe as "becoming a target", in reality, deters Russia from treating other countries like Georgia or Ukraine. Anyone can join NATO. Finland and Poland aren't going to let their neighbors just roll over them again. They have the right to arms.

  9. ​ @benjamingrant3441  People see the allies of Russia and China being used as tools, stripped of resources and kept poor. Then they see NATO members being armed to the teeth and treated as equals while their GDP skyrockets. Russia: "Be my friend or I'll punch you in the nose. You don't make friend, friend make you." NATO: "If you want to be our friend, we'll arm you, start a business for you and get you into a Mercedes."
